We draw inspiration from the intricate designs found on old Ottoman coins—timeless motifs that speak of imperial elegance and refined craftsmanship. These coins, whether the gold “Sultani” or the silver “Akçe,” often feature elaborate calligraphic inscriptions alongside geometric and arabesque patterns. For example, the Sultani coins showcase ornate borders with delicate floral and scrolling designs reminiscent of the intricate tile work seen in monuments such as the Süleymaniye Mosque. Meanwhile, Akçe coins typically bear stylized, symmetrical calligraphy of the reigning Sultan’s name and the minting date in the Hijri calendar, interwoven with repeating geometric forms that echo the balance and precision of Ottoman art.
In our embroidery work on cushions, we translate these historic elements into textile art by meticulously replicating the fine lines, balanced proportions, and layered textures. Each embroidered piece becomes a modern homage to the opulent aesthetics of the Ottoman era, celebrating its legacy through the beauty of ancient coin designs.
